  56.   The Weitek 9000/9100 device driver provides seamless
  57.   support for accelerated display graphics and advanced
  58.   color resolutions when used with the minimum required
  59.   video memory.  It conforms to the OS/2 32-bit flat
  60.   memory model and is designed to function as a 32-bit
  61.   Presentation Manager* graphics display driver under
  62.   the OS/2 32-bit graphics engine.

  95.   IBM has tested display adapters and systems containing the
  96.   Weitek Power 9000/9100 chip set with the specified amount
  97.   of memory.  IBM is continuing to test; therefore, support
  98.   for additional cards might be added over time.
  99.

  127.   2.0  COMPATIBILITY

  130.   This graphics accelerator driver is compatible with
  131.   OS/2 Warp Version 3 and 4.

  134.   3.0  PRELIMINARY STEPS
  135.   ______________________
  136.  
  137.   The following steps prepare your computer for the
  138.   Weitek 9000/9100 device driver:
  139.  
  140.   1.  You must have OS/2 DOS Support installed in order
  141.       to install this driver.
  142.   2.  If you previously installed SVGA support, return
  143.       to VGA resolution using the procedures in
  144.       "Setting Your Display to VGA Mode" later in this
  145.       README before you install this driver.
  146.  
  147.  
  148.   4.0  INSTALLATION FROM DISKETTE
  149.   _______________________________
  150.  
  151.   To install the Weitek 9000/9100 device driver from
  152.   diskette, do the following:
  153.  
  154.   1.  Insert the Weitek 9000/9100 diskette into drive A
  155.       (or any other diskette drive).
  156.       Note: This diskette should have a volume label
  157.       of "WP9X00 1". To verify, use "Label A:".
  158.   2.  Open an OS/2 full-screen or OS/2 window session.
  159.   3.  At the OS/2 command prompt, type the following
  160.       command to copy all necessary files to the OS/2
  161.       drive:
  162.  
  163.         A:SETUP A: C:
  164.  
  165.       (where A: is the diskette drive, and C: is the
  166.       drive where OS/2 is installed.)
  167.  
  168.       Then press Enter.
  169.  
  170.   4.  When prompted to do so, remove the diskette from
  171.       drive A, perform a shutdown, and then restart
  172.       your computer.
  173.   5.  Open the OS/2 System folder.
  174.   6.  Open the System Setup folder.
  175.   7.  Open the Display Driver Install object.
  176.       When the Display Driver Install window appears,
  177.       select Primary Display Driver and then select OK.
  178.   8.  When the Display Driver Select window appears,
  179.       select "Weitek Power 9000 (IBM BBS)" or
  180.       "Weitek Power 9100 (IBM BBS)"
  181.       to install the BBS video driver.
  182.   9.  When the Monitor Configuration/Selection Utility
  183.       window appears, the "Install Using Defaults for
  184.       Monitor Type" choice is preselected.  You can
  185.       accept this choice or select "Install Using
  186.       Display Adapter Utility Program" to choose a
  187.       different refresh rate.  Then select OK.
  188.  
  189.       If you select the "Install Using Display Adapter
  190.       Utility Program" choice, you must have the DOS
  191.       monitor utility that came with your display
  192.       adapter.  Contact the display adapter
  193.       manufacturer's technical support for information
  194.       on how to use the monitor utility under OS/2.
  195.  
  196.   10. When the Source Directory pop-up window appears,
  197.       insert the Weitek 9000/9100 diskette into drive
  198.       A.  Then select Install.
  199.   11. When the installation is complete, do the
  200.       following:
  201.       a.  Open the OS/2 System folder.
  202.       b.  Open the System Setup folder.
  203.       c.  Open the System object.
  204.       d.  When the Settings notebook appears, select
  205.           the Screen tab.
  206.       e.  Select a resolution.  Then close the
  207.           notebook.
  208.       f.  Perform a shutdown and restart your computer.
  209.  
  210.   Note that during the installation of this driver,
  211.   DISPLAY.LOG and DSPINSTL.LOG files are created in the
  212.   OS2\INSTALL directory.  These files identify the OS/2
  213.   system files that were updated and indicate whether
  214.   the installation was successful.  The contents of
  215.   these files might be useful if you need to report an
  216.   installation problem to IBM.

  219.   5.0 INSTALLATION IN A CID ENVIRONMENT

  222.   NOTES:
  223.  
  224.   1.  The server must contain a directory named W9_DRVS
  225.       on the same drive where the OS/2 diskettes
  226.       reside.  The W9_DRVS directory must contain all
  227.       of the files from the Weitek 9000/9100 device
  228.       driver diskette.
  229.   2.  OS/2 must have been successfully installed on the
  230.       client using the CID (Configuration Installation
  231.       Distribution) method.
  232.  
  233.   To install the Weitek 9000/9100 device driver using
  234.   CID, use the following information to modify your LCU
  235.   command file.

  334.         where this is the full path to the DSC file to be used.
  335.         The Weitek 9000 uses a different DSC file than the Weitek 9100.
  336.  
  337.        /S:X:\ where X:\
  338.         is the redirected source path.
  339.  
  340.        /T:C: where C:
  341.         is the drive where OS/2 is installed.
  342.  
  343.        /MC:10
  344.         is the manufacturing code that distinguishes Weitek.
  345.  
  346.        /res:640x480x256
  347.         is a resolution/color depth from the list of "Supported
  348.         Resolutions" that appears earlier in this README.
  349.  
  350.   NOTES:
  351.  
  352.   1.  Be sure you have the stated video memory
  353.       required, as listed in "Supported Resolutions"
  354.       earlier in this README.  A safe choice is
  355.       640x480x256.  Any of the listed resolutions can
  356.       be selected, but your display might be damaged if
  357.       you select a resolution that your display does
  358.       not support.
  359.   2.  After the Weitek 9000/9100 device driver has been
  360.       successfully installed on the client machine
  361.       using the CID method and the client machine is
  362.       restarted, the resolution will be as specified by
  363.       command line argument.
  364.  
  365.  
  366.   6.0  FUNCTIONAL RESTRICTIONS
  367.   ____________________________
  368.  
  369.   o   After Dark** for Windows** images that move from
  370.       left to right do not perform properly at
  371.       640x480x16M resolution.
  372.   o   To avoid a general protection fault while loading
  373.       Ventura Publisher** for Windows, be sure it is in
  374.       one of the 256-color resolutions.
  375.   o   To avoid a trap in Lotus** 1-2-3** for OS/2, do
  376.       not attempt to run the program at 16.7 million
  377.       colors.
  378.   o   WordPerfect** Versions 5.1 and 5.2 for Windows
  379.       produce a general protection fault when the
  380.       "Print Preview" option is selected while using
  381.       800x600x64K or 600x480x16 million color mode.
  382.   o   Users of the software motion video feature of
  383.       MMPM/2* should expect satisfactory results in
  384.       256-color modes.  However, in 64K-color modes,
  385.       OS/2 2.1 users of the feature will experience unusual
  386.       results.  An OS/2 pervasive-fix package is available
  387.       as Fix Package XR06200 for APAR PJ11051. OS/2 versions
  388.       2.11 and above have this fix. The software motion
  389.       video feature is not supported in 16-million
  390.       color modes.
  391.   o   CorelDRAW** 2.0 will not run in a WIN-OS/2*
  392.       window session.  It must be run in a WIN-OS/2
  393.       full-screen session.
  394.   o   Micrografx** Charisma 2.1 will not run in a
  395.       WIN-OS/2 window session.  It must be run in a
  396.       WIN-OS/2 full-screen session.
  397.   o   IBM ValuePoint 6482 systems do not support the
  398.       Photon Torpedo Vesa Local Bus adapter with
  399.       Weitek Power 9000 video chip.
  400.  
  401.  
  402.   7.0  SETTING YOUR DISPLAY TO VGA MODE
  403.   _____________________________________
  404.  
  405.   Use the following procedures to return to VGA mode.
  406.  
  407.   o   If you are installing this driver on OS/2 Warp,
  408.       and you do not have a usable OS/2 Desktop, use
  409.       the following procedures to return to VGA mode.
  410.       However, if you have a usable Desktop, it is
  411.       recommended that you use Selective Install to set
  412.       your display to VGA mode.
  413.  
  414.       1.  Turn on your computer.  If your computer is
  415.           already on, press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart it.
  416.       2.  When a small white box appears in the upper
  417.           left-hand corner of your screen, press
  418.           Alt+F1.
  419.       3.  When the Recovery Choices screen appears,
  420.           press V.
  421.       4.  Run Selective Install to change the Windows drivers.
  422.  
  423.       Your display adapter is restored and can work in
  424.       VGA mode.  If you want to install a new display
  425.       adapter or video device driver, refer to Chapter
  426.       16, "Video Procedures," in the User's Guide to
  427.       OS/2 Warp.
  428.  
  429.   o   If you are installing this driver on OS/2 2.1,
  430.       2.11, or OS/2 for Windows, and you do not have a
  431.       usable OS/2 Desktop, use the following procedures
  432.       to return to VGA mode.  However, if you have a
  433.       usable Desktop, it is recommended that you use
  434.       the Display Driver Install object to set your
  435.       display to VGA mode.
  436.  
  437.       -   If you installed OS/2 from diskettes, do the
  438.           following:
  439.  
  440.           1.  Start OS/2 using the OS/2 Installation
  441.               Diskette.  When prompted, insert Diskette
  442.               1 and then press Enter. When the install
  443.               option screen appears, press F3 (or Esc) to
  444.               exit to a command prompt.
  445.  
  446.           2.  Before running RSPDSPI, delete the following files:
  447.  
  448.                 [OS2 DRIVE]:\OS2\INSTALL\P9000BB.DSC
  449.                 [OS2 DRIVE]:\OS2\INSTALL\P9100BB.DSC
  450.  
  451.           3.  Be sure RSPDSPI.EXE is in the
  452.               \OS2\INSTALL directory.  If it is, go to
  453.               step 4.  If it is not, insert Diskette 8
  454.               into drive A and unpack RSPDSPI.EXE with
  455.               the following command:
  456.  
  457.                 C:\OS2\UNPACK A:\INSTAID C: /N:RSPDSPI.EXE
  458.  
  459.               (where A: is the drive containing
  460.               Diskette 8, and C: is the drive where
  461.               OS/2 is installed.)
  462.           4.  Type C: and then press Enter.
  463.           5.  Type CD C:\OS2\INSTALL and then press
  464.               Enter.
  465.           6.  Type the following:
  466.  
  467.                 RSPDSPI /PK:VGA /SK:NONE /S:A:\ /T:C:
  468.  
  469.               (In /T:C:, C: is the drive where OS/2 is
  470.               installed.  In /S:A:, A: is the diskette
  471.               drive you use to install OS/2.)
  472.  
  473.               Then press Enter.
  474.  
  475.       -   If you installed OS/2 from CD-ROM or a LAN,
  476.           do the following:
  477.  
  478.           1.  Start OS/2 using the OS/2 Installation
  479.               Diskette.  When prompted, insert Diskette
  480.               1 and then press Enter. When the install
  481.               option screen appears, press F3 (or Esc) to
  482.               exit to a command prompt.
  483.           2.  Before running RSPDSPI, delete the following files:
